Most Job websites (Careerbuilder, HotJobs, Monster, etc all charge a fee, sometimes several hundred dollars. But all of our Job postings are always free for all locations. Even "free sites" such as Craigslist are not really free for everyone by charging a few for a growing list of locations.

To create an account with the Dragon Information Network, we collect as little information as possible. This is for your own protection. The only piece of information required to create an account is your email address. We use this for communication with you from our site. We recommend that you do not per personal information, such as phone number or your email address in your listings. This will help protect you from spam emails from other people, and spam text messages sent to your cell phone.

We also recommend never to give out your phone number to anyone or any other website or company. You never know what they may do with this information now or in the future.

For the most part, using the Dragon Exchange is free. We do have a few categories of items that we charge a small fee:

  • We charge for listing translations: If you want to have your listing translated into Chinese or from Chinese to English, we have a small charge for this based on the length of your listing. Once translated, your listing cannot be changed. This is an excellent way to reach people who only speak Chinese! In fact, did you know that as of Feb 2008, the majority of people using the Internet speak Chinese! Even if you are in an English speaking country, you can reach the large number of Chinese speaking people in your country by having your listing translated to Chinese.
  • We charge for reply translations: If you happen to receive a reply to your listing in Chinese, you can either translate it for free using one of the online translation tools, such as Google translate, or you can have a professional translation done by the Dragon Information Network.
  • Multiple Location Inventory (MLI)Units: In order to help cut down on spam, we charge a small fee (only $1) to post listings in more than 1 location.
  • Dragon Cash: You can use Dragon Cash to increase the search standing of your listings. Dragon Cash units start at $1
  • Resume Search: We provide a free 24hrs Resume Search package. After that, we have resume search packages starting at $25 for 3 months. Each resume search package includes free MLI units and Dragon Cash.

While we hope that most people will post appropriate listings, there are cases where some people will post things that are not appropriate or by mistake. What happens in these cases?

  • First we will review your listing. A real person will review your listing and communicate with you through your Dragon Information Network inbox to let you know that it is in violation of our terms, and allow you to correct the situation. If you are not willing to correct the situation, we will remove your listing from the site.
  • If a Dragon Information Network member finds your listing and feels it is not appropriate, they can flag your listing, which brings it to our attention and to your attention. If after repeated warnings, appropriate action is not taken, we may have to remove your listing.

In call cases, you will get a personalize message from our staff about your listing. We strive to keep the site personal, and do not allow listings to be flagged at random or removed without reason or without letting you know.

Other sites, to save cost, simply allow anyone to flag and cause your listing to be removed. This has even resulted in companies hiring other people to flag competitor listings!

Unlike most sites, that claim to be easy, or claim to serve their members, we truly do. We do not require your telephone number to register you account, and we do not require "Monkey Text" (you know those text boxes that most sites require you to type in characters showing that you have an IQ at least as great as a monkey). We do everything to serve you and make things easy for you to use our site. We have a team of people who review each listing, and if there is an issue, we contact you personally!

Wouldn't it be great if every site were so personal, or truly had "customer service"!

Monkey Text is the phrase we use for those text boxes that most websites use to avoid spam or abuse. But in most cases, these do little to avoid spam or abuse of those sites, and simply give the impress that those sites are cutting down on abuse or spam, when in fact it is usually on the rise, making those sites less useful.

At The Dragon Information Network, we have taken a different approach. We feel we should serve our customers and members, and as such, we have a team of customer services representatives serving you, the members and users of our site. So you will not see Monkey Text boxes, checking to see if you can type in what you see. If your listing follows our terms, you can simply post and be done. If your listing does not follow our simple guidelines, our team will review it and let you know.

What could be simpler than that?

We have brought back the "User Friendly" back to the web, and our Customer Service servers our members and customers.

Other sites, such as craigslist, not only require the entry of monkey text, but the text you are entering is actually to help another company (http://recaptcha.net/) with their scanning of books and text project! We fell that not only is this a distraction for the end user, but in effect you are performing the work that another company is too lazy or does not want to perform! Since the text you are required to enter in is unknown, at times, offensive words are found that are not suited for younger children.

We often are asked, what is flagging. Other sites have a flagging system, and we believe our flagging system is substantially better and more effective than their flagging systems.

What is flagging?

The first thing you will notice about our flagging system, is it is only available to members of the Dragon Information Network. This means that not just anyone, or any program can automatically flag a listing. You first need to be a member in order to flag anotehr member's listing.

There are several types of notifications that can be made for any given listing.

  • Positive Feedback: If a listing is good, we hope other members will submit this sort of flag to let us know that a listing is positive. We will review and rate these, and often contact the owner with a positive compliment.
  • Spam Feedback: This is the first of the negative types of feedbacks that a listing can receive. But submitting a spam feedback, the owner is notified that their listing has been considered spam by another member. The sender's identity is not revealed. Another important fact is that the listing is not automatically removed from the site due to this negative feedback, but is brought to the attention of our review team. They will review the listing, and determine what action to take. (see below for the list of actions)
  • Violates Terms: This is a more serious form of negative feedback. Our review team will review the listing, and if it is determined that it does in fact violate one of our terms, we will remove the listing immediately and notify the owner of the listing that their listing has been removed. If there are repeated offenses, the owner account will be disabled.
  • Wrong Category: This is a neutral feedback and is simply to notify the owner that the category where their listing is posted is incorrect. This would usually mean they will get fewer viewers of their listing.

Feedback Actions:

The following are a list of actions that will be taken for negative feedbacks received:

  • Spam:
    • Owner is notified they have received a spam feedback.
    • Our Review Team will review the listing
    • If the listing is considered spam (same listing posted over and over again) we will notify the owner to remove the duplicate listings.
    • If the duplicate listings are not removed, our Review Team will remove them for the owner.
    • If the owner continues to post spam, the owners account will be disabled.
    • If the owner creates new accounts and tries to continue to post spam listings, the owners IP addresses will be banned from the site.
  • Violates Terms:
    • Owner is notified they have received a violate terms feedback.
    • Review Team reviews the listing
    • If the listing does violate one of our terms, the listing is removed immediately, and the owner notified.
    • If the owner continues to post listings that violate our terms, the owners account is disabled, IP address is banned, and listings removed.

We feel the Dragon Information Network feedback system is not only more fair than other systems, but also brings the human element into the picture. Before implementing our feedback system, we reviewed other sites, such as craigslist, and found the following flaws in it:

  • Anyone can post a negative feedback: this means that feedback can be posted by someone, or an application, that is not a member of craigslist. In fact there are companies who advertise that they have teams of flaggers, that you can hire, to remove competitors listings off of craigslist, so yours remain and stay at the top!
  • Flagging removes listings: with the craigslist system, after a certain number of flags, listings are immediately removed from the site. Again, with companies armed with teams of flaggers, in most cases, legitimate listings are being removed by these teams of flaggers with their software. We did some tests of craigslist, and found that about 80% or 90% of our legitimate listings were being removed by flagging, even through they did not violate any of the terms of craigslist.
  • No human review: when listings are flagged on craigslist, there is no human that reviews the listing and determines if the listing is correct, or if the flagger is correct.

We value our members time and energy to post correct listings, and we have put into place a system that treats our members as people, not as reviewers for our site. We have found that people who have switched from a site such as craigslist to our site, they are so relieved that they can finally post legitimate listings, without the fear that others (their competitors or just random flaggers) will flag their listing enough to have it removed. We call this syndrome "Flag Fatigue", and hope that our site offers relief for those suffering from Flag Fatigue.

Our motto is "We work harder - so you don't have to!" and this is one area where we have won praise from our members and really shine!

At the Dragon Exchange, we are taking the best features of online communities and online classifieds and making them better. Included in our goals are:

Members First: We value our members first, above our profits! How is this reflected in our family of sites?

  • No Monkey Text: We would like to treat everyone as humans, and we assume you can read. In order to save on profits, companies employ cryptic test to see if you can read unrecognizable words, just to verify that you are human. We assume you are human and treat you as we would like to be treated ourselves, as human. So you will not see Monkey Text on any of our sites. How do we avoid spammers? Simply we employ humans to verify each listing!
  • Reduce Spam: We believe that email is becoming ineffective due to the amounts of spam that are generated by sites that do not protect your privacy and force you to reveal your email address. We encourage members to not reveal their email addresses in their listings or posts to our sites. With each account, we include a safe inbox for you to receive messages and reply to other members. Only once you are sure of the nature of the exchange, is when you should reveal your email address. We also provide the ability to block other members from sending you messages if you determine they are spamming or sending you messages that are of no interest to you.
  • Free Listings For All Members: Many so called free classifieds sites provide free listings, but only if you live or work in certain areas. This in effect discriminates against certain members in order to bring in higher profits. At the Dragon Exchange, all members and locations are treated equally. All Listings in all Locations are Free for all members. How are we profitable? Simply put, by the volume of people using our sites, we rely on the advertising posted sparingly on the site. That has kept us profitable from day one, and keeps our costs free for all members. We believe this is how the internet should be, free for all.

Clean Simply User Interface: As the web has progressed, many sites are simply trying to use the latest technologies to achieve the slickest user experience. This is often as the sacrifice of speed and actual usefulness to the end user. So in many cases, these sites are doing a disservice to their members. Since the Dragon Exchange sites are used by members worldwide, we strive to keep our user interface as simple and clean as possible.

We Listen to Our Community: Every day we receive many suggestions and recommendations from our members. We review each of these suggestions and reply to every one. Many of the features on our site have been developed based on these suggestions, and many features, such as monkey text, have been kept off of the site based on these suggestions.
