The Dragon Index

The Dragon Index

Beginning in with January 2009, we began publishing our site activity index, also called the Dragon Index. Initially this index will include a weighted average of various metrics from the site, including new companies, new jobs, new resumes, job applications and message traffic.

Current Dragon Index

The Dragon Index 2010

July 2010: The Dragon Index remained relatively flat for the month of July as the economy worldwide remained relatively unchanged, and the number of new companies and jobs remained relatively flat. This is also typical for the summer months, as people take vacations and employers hold off on hiring new employees until after the summer break in most countries.

June 2010: June saw an increase in the Dragon Index due to our increased advertising. We also saw an increase in activity from our international sites due to our recent tour activity at several major cities in they US, Canada and China.

May 2010: The May Dragon Index had a slight increase for the month as the economy in the US remained relatively flat.

April 2010: In April, we saw the Dragon Index relatively flat, yet still at its highest levels. As unemployment in the US continues to remain around the 10% level, or 20% level if you consider those who have given up looking for work, most traffic has been related to jobs and resumes.

March 2010: With the launch of our site dedicated to providing resources for the unemployed (www.EverymanUnemployed.com) we've continued to see a significant rise in the Dragon Exchange Index.

Feb 2010: We continue to see an increase in the Dragon Index for the month of Feb 2010. In Feb 2010, we also passed 1 million page views/month.

Jan 2010 : Our advertising campaigns took traction in Jan 2010 with a dramatic jump in the Dragon Index. More employers who are hiring are taking advantage of the limited time free job postings and free resume search to find qualified candidates. At a time when most major job sites are raising fees, the smart employer is looking how to cut costs and find the most qualified candidates. The Dragon Exchange fills that need. We have also see an increase in Real Estate postings, as the real estate market recovers and realtors are looking for more ways to advertise their properties.

2009 Summary

  • Dec 2009 Update: The Dragon Index dipped in December which is a seasonal pattern we see due to holidays.

  • Nov 2009 Update: The Dragon Index peaked in Nov as many companies began to take advantage of the limited time free resume search package.

  • October 2009 Update: The Dragon Index remained basically flat for the month of October.

  • September: 2009 Update: In September we began to offer free trial resume access. This helped boost job posting activity and resume search licenses.

  • August 2009 Update: In August, we completed our Help A Friend Cash give away program and saw the site activity continue to increase. Employers posted more jobs than in any previous month, and new resumes hit an all time high.

  • July 2009 Update: We saw activity increase during the month of July. This was primarily due to increase activity from employers and job seekers. In July we began to add to our sales staff both in the US and China. We continue to see an increase in job seeker and resume activity, as well as an increase in employers turning to the Dragon Exchange to save on costs with our free job postings, and low cost resume packages.

  • June 2009 Update: In June, we saw a slight dip in the Dragon Index as we normally do during the summer months.

  • May 2009 Update: The Dragon Index continued to rise during the month of May. The Help A Friend program activity also increased.

  • April 2009 Update: The Dragon Index for the first time past the 2000 point level. Thanks in part to the success of the Help A Friend Program. During the month of April 2009, the Help A Friend Program generated a total of 112,236 referrals! With this outstanding performance we have decided to double our cash giveaway for the month of May.

  • March 2009 Update: We continue to see a steady increase in the Dragon Site activity. In March, we announced our Help A Friend Program, where we will begin to give out cash rewards for those member that refer their friend to the Dragon Exchange to help them find a job. The program started in April 2009, so we expect to see a large increase in April as people begin to refer their friends.

  • Feb 2009 Update: We saw an increase in resume activity and job postings as job seekers continue to look for job opportunities. Employers also continue to turn to the Dragon Exchange to provide a cost effective recruiting platform for 2009.

  • Jan 2009 Update: We saw a modest increase in the Dragon Index in Jan 2009. Most likely this is a seasonal factor with the New Year Holiday, and Chinese New Year both falling within this month.

2008 Summary

With this Dragon Index chart, we can see there was a sharp rise in activity beginning in Sept 2008, starting with the economic crisis that hit the US in mid September.

We can also see activity steadily increase for the remaining months of the year.

Site activity used for the index includes new account creations, new resumes posted, new job listings and conversations recorded through the Dragon Inbox between members. In future editions of the Dragon Index we will try to break these activities out based on the type of activity and also geographical locations.

Our analysis of what happened during the year includes:

  • When the economic crisis hit in Sept 2008 we see an huge increase in account creations, and resumes posted. This is to be expected as people were either beginning to lose their jobs. We also saw an increase in listings, both jobs and other categories of listings as companies, looking to save on job postings were turning to the Dragon Exchange to take advantage of our free job listings, or individuals were looking to list items for sale.

  • We also saw a steady rise in activity from October 2008 through the end of the year. We believe this was due to a combination of the on going economic crisis, along with the increases in cost for posting jobs on craigslist. It was on Oct 15th that craigslist began charging for job postings in many US cities. We remain committed to free job postings, and free listings in all categories.
